The Limitations of Science

There is a segment of the scientific community that has determined that the only method appropriate for proving the existence of a particular dimension is the Scientific Method. If the tools of science cannot measure it, scan it, detect it, or mathematically theorize it, then it must not really exist.

However, science is limited in what it can do. The advancement that there has been in scientific discovery in the last century alone is staggering to the limited human mind. Even this though is barely scratching the surface of what can someday be known. There are things accepted today as elementary fact that a century ago were adamantly declared by the greatest scientists (of that day) as being impossible and non-existent.

Theories also abound. String theory and other multidimensional theories that are just that, theories, and cannot yet be proven by the scientific method, are heralded as cutting edge genius, making Einstein sound like a junior high math student in comparison to a PhD mathematics professor publishing his own thoughts of the possibilities of other dimensions.

Yet, the String Theory group is mostly comprised of people who refuse to acknowledge the possible existence of God and His Spiritual Dimension due to lack of scientific evidence. Evidence! (Notice the above subject is String Theory, not String Evidence.) Why not at least allow for a Spiritual Theory that affords the subject the same level of respect (and funding!) as String Theory receives?

It’s simple: String Theory (and the scientific method) makes mankind look and sound smart and fills us with pride, while a God Theory (and the spiritual dimension) would make us look and sound small and helpless, needing humility to approach a great, powerful, and holy God.

“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.”

~ Hebrews 11:6

As for using a limited Scientific Method of the Natural Dimension and nothing more to prove the existence or absence of God and His Spiritual Dimension, this is foolish.

Can a poet use only poetry to prove the existence of mathematics without using examples of math in his proof? No, but mathematics exists nonetheless.

Can a mathematician use only mathematics to prove the existence of poetry without using examples of poetry in his proof? No, but poetry exists nonetheless.

Can an artist use only his art creations to prove the existence of creative writing without using examples of creative writing in his proof? No, but creative writing exists nonetheless.

Can a car mechanic use only his tools to prove the existence of DNA without using examples of the DNA in his proof? No, but DNA exists nonetheless.

Can a scientist use only his scientific tools to prove the existence of God without using examples of God in his proof? No, but God exists nonetheless.

Can a scientist use only his scientific tools to prove the existence of the spiritual dimension without using examples of spiritual things in his proof? No, but the Spiritual Dimension exists nonetheless.

“… The Lord, who stretches out the heavens, who lays the foundation of the earth, and who forms the human spirit within a person…”

~ Zechariah 12:1

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.”

~ Genesis 1:1-2

“God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.””

~ John 4:24

“Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.”

~ John 3:6

“… God, for whom and through whom everything exists…”

~ Hebrews 2:10

The Scientific Method is currently insufficient for the task of “proving” the existence of God to a person who refuses to believe that God exists. One must employ faith in their method, then the beauty and the enormity of God and His Spiritual Dimension opens up for observation and participation.

The Chasm Between Sin & Holiness

Humanity miscalculates the wickedness of sin and the purity of holiness, and the enormous cost of God’s grace that spans the chasm between us and Him, between us in our sin and Him in His holiness.

When we miscalculate just how wicked sin is and how pure holiness is, our perspective on life will be skewed and distorted. We will consider our sin to not be that bad, that God’s grace (His delay of judgement providing extra time and the means for us to repent and change) isn’t really all that big of a deal, and that God’s holiness is just one or two notches better than a pretty good person. We will view God’s judgments on average sinners to be too harsh and unloving, and we cannot fathom how a loving God would send “pretty good people” to hell for their sin.

When we read in the scriptures of the riches of God’s grace, we don’t comprehend the “riches” part of His grace, we tend to think of the term “riches” to be just a flowery attempt at poetic creative writing. Instead, due to the almost infinite void that is the difference between sin and holiness, God’s grace really is rich and magnificent. When He forgives us (at our request) He separates us from our sin “as far as the east is from the west,” the chasm’s size between sin and holiness.

“He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His love for those who fear Him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.”

~ Psalm 103:10-12

The price for settling our sin-debt is far beyond anything we could ever afford to pay, even the sacrifice of our very life is not enough because our value has been so greatly diminished by our own sin. This is why there was a need for a sinless and perfect sacrifice, the cost to settle our sin-debt required the life’s blood that has not incurred any sin. Jesus was that sinless and perfect sacrifice, perfect in holiness and perfect in value! He said,

“This is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.”

~ Matthew 26:28

It has been asked, What kind of God would send His own Son to be murdered as a price for the ultimate and final forgiveness of His murderers? Again, this is humanity’s miscalculation of the purity of God’s holiness and the enormity of His love. His love for us extends even far beyond releasing His own holy (sinless) Son to lay down His own body as a means for “buying back” His created people who would love Him in return.

“… in order that in the coming ages He might show the incomparable riches of His grace, expressed in His kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith…”

~ Ephesians 2:7-8

The next time we are reminded of the “riches of God’s grace” let’s remember the utter bankruptcy of our lives and just how evil our sins are, even our “white lies” separate us from the glory of God as far as the east is from the west. And thanks be to God, when we turn to Christ and ask of Him the forgiveness of our sin, He takes us from our place of sin on one side of the universe and transplants us on the other side of the universe, seated with Him in His holiness in the heavens.

“And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus,”

~ Ephesians 2:6

Let’s recalculate our concept and measure of the difference between sin and holiness.
