A scoffer may believe that their sin was bad enough to put Jesus on the Cross, but that their sin is too bad for Jesus to forgive.
Jesus died for each and every person, and those who will receive the full benefit are those who will entrust to Him the forgiveness of their sin. It is truly heartbreaking to consider the scoffers who have been deceived into thinking that Jesus’ death on the Cross was just short of being enough to pay-off their sin-debt.
“… through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. Through Him everyone who believes is set free from every sin, a justification you were not able to obtain under the law of Moses.
Take care that what the prophets have said does not happen to you: ‘Look, you scoffers, wonder and perish, for I am going to do something in your days that you would never believe, even if someone told you.’”
~ Acts 13:38-41
My sin put Jesus through the crucifixion on the Cross, and yet He still forgives me! I have discovered that Jesus, at one time before creation, had a choice not to go through with the whole crucifixion, death, and resurrection ordeal. But, His love for me and for you literally drove Him to go through with it.
“… the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.”
~ Revelation 13:8
He wasn’t about to go through all of that suffering only to then decline forgiveness for me and you. His sacrifice, His love, and His willingness is infinitely sufficient to forgive anyone who will (through faith) entrust to Him the forgiveness of their sin.
