Attention All Pre-Prophets

Every active prophet (or pastor, or minister) was at one time an unaware pre-prophet. In other words, everyone in the ministry starts from scratch, they aren’t born a prophet. Amos was an Old Testament prophet who briefly shared his own transition from being a herder and farmer to a prophet:

“Amos answered… ‘I was neither a prophet nor the son of a prophet, but I was a shepherd, and I also took care of sycamore-fig trees.

But the Lord took me from tending the flock and said to me, “Go, prophesy to my people Israel.”

Now then, hear the word of the Lord…’”

~ Amos 7:14-16

If you are questioning a call to the ministry that is being whispered in the ears of your heart; if you doubt that your heritage and background are sufficient education, experience, and skill to be an effective minister; if you don’t know of any special giftings or talents that He might use; then you are undergoing the same doubts that every called-to-ministry man, woman, youth, and child experiences.

When God calls us to speak for Him through a prophetic service (a mouthpiece for Him) He isn’t depending on any talents or intelligence that we bring to the table. Most likely our doubts are based on the truth: we aren’t smart enough to do it alone.

God calls ordinary people (Pre-Prophets!), He will then provide the message and the anointing. All we bring to the table that is of any value is a surrendered, obedient, and willing heart.

Jezebel was a Sidonian princess who became the wife and Queen of King Ahab of Israel. While King Ahab was more wicked than any previous King in Israel’s history, Jezebel’s wickedness was to the extreme! (Her life and death can be read about in 1 Kings 16 through 2 Kings 9).

As a Sidonian princess and then as the Queen of Israel, she had the best of servants, apparel, jewelry, make-up, food, and spa treatments. However, her heart was overflowing with the wickedness one would expect from a princess of hell’s kingdom. Her wickedness was so extreme that God gave special planning for her demise, and told Elijah how she would be killed:

“… When Jezebel heard about it, she put on eye makeup, arranged her hair and looked out of a window…
… they threw her down, and some of her blood spattered the wall and the horses as they trampled her underfoot…

But when they went out to bury her, they found nothing except her skull, her feet and her hands…

‘This is the Word of the Lord that He spoke through His servant Elijah: “… dogs will devour Jezebel’s flesh… so that no one will be able to say, ‘This is Jezebel.’ ” ‘ ”

~ 2 Kings 9:30-37

Just because someone has servants, power, prestige, beauty, wealth, and is feared and respected by the multitudes does not mean they are good people. God knows their heart, and they are weighed accordingly.

If you know a Jezebel (or if YOU are a Jezebel), their (your?) future is not bright. Their (your?) legacy will be destroyed like fire burning the dry straw that it is, and the after-life will be even more intolerable by them (you?) than their (your?) wickedness has been in this life.

It isn’t too late, Jezebels are welcome at the Cross of Christ, for repentance and a new life!

God Transforms Deserts for You!

Sometimes life isn’t easy.

Okay, most of life isn’t easy. In fact, most people experience in their lifetime some trials of extreme wilderness wandering, wondering if God has forgotten them. Their health may have become sickness, their wealth may have become bankruptcy, their marriage may have become widowed, their social life may have become loneliness.

If God has not left them, then why does He allow these trials and desert wanderings to be experienced? There are some great answers to these kinds of questions in scripture, but ultimately our understanding of the “why’s and how-come’s” will not be comprehended in this life.

One thing we can do in our wilderness times is anticipate the very real response of God to our tearful, lonely prayers:

“The poor and needy search for water, but there is none; their tongues are parched with thirst.

But I the Lord will answer them; I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them. I will make rivers flow on barren heights, and springs within the valleys. I will turn the desert into pools of water, and the parched ground into springs…

… so that people may see and know, may consider and understand, that the hand of the Lord has done this, that the Holy One of Israel has created it.”

~ Isaiah 41:17-20

Today’s desert is tomorrow’s water park. Today’s wilderness is tomorrow’s garden. Today’s weakness is tomorrow’s strength. Today’s sickness is tomorrow’s health. Today’s bankruptcy is tomorrow’s wealth. Today’s loneliness is tomorrow’s contentment.

God hasn’t forgotten you, He is right there with you. He isn’t ignoring you, He is planning and working on your behalf. Endure today’s suffering with the joy of anticipating God’s tomorrow!

Fears from Conspiracy Theories

Life in this world has plenty of things that inspire fear and can be very debilitating if fear is not overcome within the heart and mind with the Peace of God. Even the Psalmist expressed the extent of the fears that were terrorizing and overwhelming him:

“My heart is in anguish within me; the terrors of death have fallen on me. Fear and trembling have beset me; horror has overwhelmed me. I said, ‘Oh, that I had the wings of a dove! I would fly away and be at rest… flee far away and stay in the desert… hurry to my place of shelter, far from the tempest and storm.’”

~ Psalm‬ ‭55:4-8‬

In our world today, especially due to the incredible rivers of communication that social media technology affords us, there are enough conspiracy theories floating around that even if 1% were considered by an individual to be true (and thus considered worthy of harboring its fear), it is enough to cripple a person mentally and emotionally.

A conspiracy theory usually has a few elements of truth within it, just enough to make it taste “true,” just as a lie usually has an element of truth, a sweet flavor to cover up the bitter taste of the lie.

The “theory” aspect is the imagination’s blueprint for how the pieces fit together. It’s similar to having 5 used, real bricks (truths) and imagining what the entire building looked like that they came from, and how the building was used for a conspiracy to control the population, or whatever. While this analogy may seem extreme, it nonetheless illustrates the point; besides, most conspiracy theories are built around just a hand full of truth bricks.

As followers of Christ, we are aware of the schemes of the enemy, the tools and weapons he uses, and how fear and doubt are central to his stratagems. Let’s trust God and keep our eyes on Him, thereby overcoming the debilitating effects of fear… especially fear inspired by conspiracy theories.

When God Shines Upon You

In a darkened world, you stand out to everyone because Christ shines His light upon you. Your face reflects His glory, His grace, His joy, and His love upon those who are around you.

“Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.

See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the Lord rises upon you and his glory appears over you.

Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn.”

~ ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭60:1-3‬

While it is true that “bad company corrupts good character” (1 Co. 15:33) if the good charactered person tries to fit-in with the bad company, the flow of influence does reverse direction when the good charactered person approaches living daily life with the mind of Christ. The surrounding bad company can be influenced when God’s light is deliberately reflected by the good charactered person’s whole life onto those around them who are in darkness.

Let’s consciously and deliberately present our lives to the Lord to serve as a human mirror for His glory.
