The Palm of Deborah

“In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy… on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.”‭‭

( Acts‬ ‭2:17-18‬ & Joel 2:28-32 )

This passage, found in both the Old and New Testaments, culminated on the Day of Pentecost and of course continues today.

Ladies, the short story of Deborah is a beautiful reminder of God’s desire to anoint not just men, but you too, equally.

“Now Deborah, a prophet, the wife of Lappidoth, was leading Israel at that time. She held court under the Palm of Deborah… and the Israelites went up to her to have their disputes decided.

She sent for Barak… and said to him, ‘The Lord, the God of Israel, commands you: “Go, take with you ten thousand men… and lead them up to Mount Tabor. I the Lord will lead… [the enemy’s] army… into your hands.”‘

Barak said to Deborah, ‘If you go with me, I will go; but if you don’t go with me, I won’t go.’”

( Judges 4:4-8 )

Perhaps you feel there is no anointing for you, for whatever reason, or you just can’t identify it. What might be keeping you from discovering the particular anointing that God has planned for you?

Too young? Too old? Single? Married? Too rich? Too poor? Too busy? Too shy? Too disabled? You are “just” a woman?

Forget the voices that reverberate in your mind, having told you or scolded you that women are not among those whom God anoints for prophetic service or leadership.

Scripture, cover to cover, is full of women whom God anointed and used in the power of the Holy Spirit. He wants to use you for His glory too!

“… Philip the evangelist, one of the Seven. He had four unmarried daughters who prophesied.”

‭‭( Acts‬ ‭21:8-9‬ )

  1. I remember in 2nd year at Ichthuse being assigned an oral report with you on Deborah & Barak. I believe we “winged” the assignment lol. But I’ll never forget the charge the Lord gave me to aspire to walk in my assignment & anointing regardless of my gender.
